We, at Black Business Edmonton, wish to acknowledge that we are situated on the traditional territories and ancestral lands of the Indigenous peoples, including the Cree, Blackfoot, Métis, Nakota Sioux, Iroquois, Dene, Ojibwe/Saulteaux/Anishinaabe, Inuit, and many others, whose footsteps have marked these lands for centuries.
As we strive to support and grow the Black business community in Edmonton, we recognize the importance of acknowledging the historical and ongoing connection of Indigenous peoples to this land. We understand that our work takes place on territories that have been inhabited by Indigenous nations since time immemorial, and we respect the treaties that were made on these territories. We acknowledge the painful history of colonization that has had a profound impact on Indigenous peoples and their land, and we commit to making the promise of truth and reconciliation real in our community.
In honoring the land, we also recognize the interconnectedness and the importance of solidarity among all marginalized communities in the pursuit of justice and equity. We believe that acknowledging the land is an important step in building a more inclusive and respectful business community, and we commit to learning from and with Indigenous communities to ensure that our practices and policies reflect respect for this land and its original peoples.
